Enhancing Document Workflow for Legal Departments to Meet GDPR Compliance
Description
A German legal consulting firm contacted us in 2022 after thoroughly assessing our expertise and asked us to join a collaborative development process for a custom document workflow system. With the introduction of GDPR for data protection, many companies in the EU found the urgent need to automate the process of creating Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) documents. Our client requested a solution to organize the collaborative work of multiple legal specialists worldwide with varying capabilities, ensuring the efficient preparation, handling, and integrity of legal documents.
Challenge
One of the main challenges presented was that there were multiple Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) templates, depending on the EU country, and we were to come up with a unified format.
In addition to this, our development team joined the collaborative development of the document workflow creation process at a later stage, resulting in the need to analyze and understand already-running project requirements and sometimes not fully documented information.
Solution
To help address the client’s requests, we initially assigned 3-4 software engineers, a DevOps engineer, and one QA specialist to the project.
We helped develop an automated document workflow system that applies various workflows based on input and involves the relevant departments. Additionally, it includes a robust system for creating customizable reports in various formats. One notable end-user that benefits from this software system is a large enterprise company in the USA.
